A shame Streetlife is closing

On the UK local neighbourhood Streetlife we’re being asked to setup an account at Nextdoor a US company, but do you want a US company in control of your personal details with the new Trump’d  US privacy ‘settings’?

With Trumps new executive order undermining the EU/US Privacy Shield agreement are you happy letting US authorities have uncontrolled access to your personal data?

Of course good citizens should have nothing to fear from authorities snooping right, well that is unless someone slightly erratic comes to power and then decides to ban a sub set of the population from doing something. Then you need to worry about what your Nextdoor profile says about you.

People in the IT security industry, and others, have been harping on about privacy (from governments) for years, not because we want people doing bad things to hide but because we want innocent citizens of a nation to be treated fairly.

Often the premise is 'but you never know who will come to power’, or what they will do when they get there. The truth has arrived.

The answer is simple, remove private and personal data, such as nationality and religion from online services and move away from USA based companies to a UK based alternative.

Should you switch, well you’re probably safe to do so if you are white Anglo Saxon middle class, otherwise all bets are off.
