The earliest PC malware targeted Microsoft/IBM operating systems (DOS boot sector/MBR), the first macro viruses targeted Microsoft Office, the majority of malware since the 80’s has targeted insecure Microsoft operating systems and application software. Let’s say that malware became a serious issue (on Microsoft platforms) in 1990, they have had 17 years to address this. Microsoft executives would do well to look inwards before blaming others.
