That’s a wrap! as they say. Twelve years volunteering at Kop Hill Climb it’s time to move on and let the ‘festival’ as it’s now called go it’s own way without the core entrants team that worked hard to get the cars and bikes there, we resigned.
We were continually undermined by those more interested in “the most important thing, raising money” at the expense of the core attraction, which we thought was the vehicles and the historic hill climb; we lost 30% of the vehicle paddock space to market traders this year which was the final straw. The event is a hill climb revival, not a market.
Then there’s the new non democratic management structure, the Entrants Team being told we can’t continue with the annual recruitment function or push out newsletters unless they are signed off; both things we’ve done with great success over the last 14 years, so time for something new.
That doesn’t mean I won’t be encouraging people to go, I’ll be booking a club pitch or buying spectator tickets and rocking up to see old friends on a damp weekend in September. It’ll be fun, I’m sure it’ll be slightly different as well which is a good thing; it needs changing up a bit, and we were trying to do that as the vehicle owners are getting bored and hill climb bookings have been dropping.
