Forty Years Gone
When I started 'poking around' online, see what I did there, in the 80's with bulletin boards and the direct message facilities they had, well before the the first web browsers(Mosaic 1993, Netscape Navigator 1994) made the internet visible to the none techie humans, we used it to message each other using email and mostly standardised technologies(SMTP 1982, POP 1984, IMAP 1986).
Then along came Hotmail in July 1996, email by web browser. What a birthday present that was and Louise and I actually got our own names as email addresses, no davidbanes666@ needed!
I was going to write a long article about email, such a big part of my life and work since 1989, then I found EmailClouds timeline here, they've done it for me.
