A day out on King's Rd

A day out on Kings Road, Chelsea today. I don't think I have been there since the early 80's when an old flame had a basement flat in Redcliffe Sq, Earls Court. Louise has never been there. Of course I didn't think about walking there from Worlds End, it would have only been ten minutes.

The vibe has changed so I'm not sure, as is often the case, visiting an old 'stomping ground' was a good idea as the memories will now change. The Sloan Square to Chelsea Town Hall end has changed, it's more posh shops and cafes now than I remember.

Still lots to see though and a bonus of The Royal Photographic Society’s International Photography Exhibition being on at the Saatchi Gallery. 

We spotted a few blue plaques and landmarks: 

• The site of Chopin's first London concert on the corner of West Eaton Place during the walk from Hyde Park Corner, Belgrave Square to Sloan Square.
• Mary Quant's Bazaar site, now a Joe & The Juice
• P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins off Kings Road
• Princess Astafieva, Ballet Dancer, at The Pheasantry, formerly home of Eric Clapton
• Chelsea Potter pub, a Jimi Hendrix local
• Vivienne Westwood's, Worlds End boutique with the backwards spinning clock 
• The Chelsea Arts Club, first home at NO. 181.
