Waiting on Tomorrow
The hybrid viewfinders in the Fujifilm X100 and X-Pro series cameras allow you to work in a way not unlike the old rangefinder style cameras like those from Leica. You can use 'optical' mode or a digital viewfinder.
The former allows you to see what is outside the frame when framing a photograph. This is especially useful when having a go at street photography, you can see who is about to enter the frame.
When doing this I love shooting 1:1(square) on my X-E5 with the surround view on which gives me the semi transparent side bars. It's the same effect as the Pro2's hybrid viewfinder; I can see whats left and right of the 1:1 'frame', but using the X-E5's digital viewfinder.
I shoot in Monochrome+R, the basic Fujifilm black and white mode and with RAW turned on which means I get a full size (3:2) colour version of the photograph as well as a backup file to the JPG. This means I can slide the 1:1 photo left and right if I need to in post edit, but then I have to try and recreate the in camera monochrome look with software filters, swings and roundabouts as they say.
